If I have one regret about my recent trip to Los Angeles, which I am loathe to say I do, it would be that while standing in line for the 50th anniversary screening of Planet of the Apes (1968), I suddenly remembered there was also an Apes exhibit in the lobby of the George Lucas Building on the USC campus. Nowhere could I learn the hours of the exhibit and it was closed by the time the screening ended.
Although I was unable to peruse the items in the exhibit up close, I was able to see it through the front windows of the building and it appeared to be heavy on Tim Burton’s 2001 version of Planet of the Apes. The centerpieces were some costumes in glass cases in the middle aisle of the exhibit. Soothing my pain was the fact that earlier in the day, when visiting the Hollywood Museum for its Batman exhibit…
…I discovered a very nice display of vintage Apes items! Please pardon the glare, but nearly everything in the Hollywood Museum rests behind glass. The pictures aren’t perfect; nevertheless, I hope they’ll give you an idea of what was on display:
